God’s Value System of Giving

give, gain and growGod’s Word clearly defines responsibilities and disciplines of the Christian Life. To a non-Christian “looking in” it would seem that the our lives are filled with rules and regulations, but, to the believer, following God’s principles are as natural as breathing. At the end of the day, it all comes down to one specific calling- Be an imitator of Christ.

Jesus’ life was characterized by reaching out in love to a lost and dying world and offering hope. God’s greatest attribute besides His Holiness and His love, is His unique and unwavering ability to GIVE. The depths of His intense GIVING toward us defy description and the attributes of His unrelenting GIVING range far beyond this life!

So, if we are imitators of Christ we should find ourselves captured by this act of GIVING and compelled to GIVE all that we have to further His kingdom here on earth.

There is a great mystery found in God’s GIVING. The world’s value system is to GIVE and therefore lose something. In God’s value system, GIVING means you RECEIVE. Every time we GIVE in the name of Jesus, we RECEIVE! We receive a blessing when we GIVE time to a lonely shut in. We RECEIVE a blessing when we GIVE our tithes and offerings to promote the telling of His Gospel. When we hold the hand of a grieving loved one, or fly across the world to build a church out of crude materials, we are GIVING on Christ’s behalf and RECEIVING a blessing.

At this time of the year when all the world is focused on the GIVING and RECEIVING of gifts, may we be ever mindful that God sent His Son as the greatest act of GIVING in order for us to experience the greatest blessing to RECEIVE.

But just as you excel in everything-in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in complete earnestness and in your love for us-see that you also excel in this grace of giving.” 2 Corinthians 8:7
